About the museum
The steep slope above Tolmin is considered one of the bloodiest battlefields on the Isonzo Front. Today an open-air museum has been set up here, which is part of the Pot miru od Alp do Jadrana (Peace Trail from the Alps to the Adriatic), and the place commemorates soldiers of all nationalities who lost their lives here in the First World War.
The ridge of Mrzli vrh is crossed by trenches, caverns and the remains of both defensive lines, Austro-Hungarian and Italian. Many remains are harder to reach, so a guided tour is recommended for a visit.
The marked circular route starts at the Pretovč mountain pasture, which is still inhabited; in summer young cattle graze beside it. From the top of Mrzli vrh there is a fine view of the former battlefields.
