About the museum
The Računalniški muzej v Ljubljani operates as a non-governmental organisation in the public interest and has worked since 2004 to preserve information heritage. It collects, preserves and revives electronic and digital technical heritage and presents it to the public through exhibitions and programmes linked to the informatisation of society.
The collection comprises more than 8,000 items of hardware and software, books, magazines and related objects from the history of computing in Slovenia and abroad. Part of the work consists of restoring interactive exhibits and bringing them back to working order in hardware and software terms. The museum also has a specialist library, works on the principle of participatory museum practice and is an ambassador of the UNESCO Software Heritage foundation.
The museum is housed in the Ljubljana cultural quarter Šiška, at Celovška cesta 111, in the part of the building closest to the city centre. Visitors can see the permanent historical exhibition Kaj pa programje? (What About the Software?), and the museum also organises educational programmes, family workshops, retro gaming evenings and temporary exhibitions.
