About the museum
The open-air mining museum has stood in Črna na Koroškem since 1980. The tradition of the mining town is represented by an imaginative display set into the rock in the middle of the square, in the very centre of the town. The mining machinery is freely accessible and displayed by a disused mine adit beside the Javorski potok stream.
On display are a locomotive, a workers' wagon, an ore wagon, digging tools and an ore trolley. A similar mine train to the one seen here can be followed in the show mine at Mežica.
Mining determined the appearance and way of life in Črna and the surrounding area for decades. Over more than 330 years, the upper part of the Mežica Valley extracted 19 million tonnes of ore from mines spread over more than 64 km², creating a labyrinth of more than 800 km of tunnels.
