About the museum
The Aula Arqueológica de Villasabariego was created in 2000 to study and promote the archaeological heritage of the ancient city of Lancia, from prehistory to the Roman period. It is located on the ground floor of the town hall building and works as an interpretation centre and small museum for the finds from the site.
The exhibition shows original pieces of pottery, bone remains, stone and metal objects from the Bronze Age, from the Asturian settlement of the Second Iron Age and from the Roman period: tegulae, millstones, pipes, Hispanic terra sigillata vessels and tableware. It also displays building elements from the Roman city, such as marble cladding, lead water pipes and bricks stamped “L.V. Insequentis”. Two models show the whole site, the excavated areas, the baths and the market.
The texts were written by Jesús Celis Sánchez, the archaeologist who directs the excavations at Lancia. The Aula can be combined with the Villafañe–Lancia trail (PRC-LE 66).
