About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación de las Tres Culturas is housed in the church of San Pedro Apóstol, in the León district of Puente Castro, beside the Torío river. In the Middle Ages the district was known as Castrum Iudeorum, because the city’s Jewish community (aljama), with more than a thousand residents, was based there. The centre opened in February 2019 with free admission and belongs to León town council.
The exhibition recalls the legacy left in León by the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities and explains what the former Jewish quarter of Puente Castro was like. It also displays objects and materials from archaeological excavations taking place a few metres away. The project is organised around three content blocks: the Roman, Jewish and Christian worlds.
The building also serves as a gateway to the city for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago. It has a reception area where the pilgrim credential can be stamped and information on León and its accommodation can be obtained, as well as an interactive point and an audiovisual point. The town council currently lists the centre as temporarily closed.
