About the museum
The Aula Museo Abejas del Valle is in the Tiétar Valley, on the southern slope of the Gredos sierra, between Poyales del Hoyo and Candeleda. It is a living museum dedicated to bees and their relationship with people, and it is always visited with a beekeeping guide.
During the visit, live bees can be seen in hanging hives, and the explanation covers how the colony is organised, the structure of the honeycomb, the bees' enemies, hive products and pollination. High-definition images show the queen laying eggs and the worker bees gathering honey and pollen.
The exhibition also includes old beekeeping equipment and looks at the role of the bee throughout history: food, medicine, art, worship and lighting. There is a shop selling bee products.
