About the museum
The centre occupies a former 14th-century ironworks that later became a mill and a farmhouse, and which the town council acquired. It lies on the banks of the Lea river, in the Gerrikaitz district, at the foot of Mount Oiz and near the start of the Lea trail. It preserves remains of the oldest documented ironworks in Bizkaia.
The exhibition explains the origin and importance of renewable energy, using the area’s wind farms as an example, and looks back at the use of clean energy in the past, above all in mills and ironworks. The centre also serves as an interpretation point for the Lea and Marierrota trails, with the heritage and personalities of the district.
