About the museum
The Museo de la Sidra opened in 1996 in Nava to protect and promote the tangible and intangible heritage of this drink. It is part of the Red de Museos Etnográficos de Asturias and presents itself as the home of Asturian cider culture.
The exhibition covers the whole process, from apple tree cultivation, apple varieties and the world of the orchards to pressing, fermentation and bottling. It also looks at the domestic, industrial, technological and social aspects of cider, as well as advertising and consumption habits in chigres and sidrerías.
The route includes a traditional llagar (cider press house) and an interactive machine that follows an apple through the process until it becomes sidra del duernu. Next to the building there is a recreation area and an open-air orchard. The museum also organises activities around cider culture and offers a free app as a digital guide.
