About the museum
The Casa Museo Andrés Torrejón is the former home of Andrés Torrejón, the mayor of Móstoles who, together with Simón Hernández, signed the proclamation of 2 May 1808 calling for resistance against French troops. Torrejón lived and died in this house, located in the historic centre of the town.
The building is a simple house with a brick façade, one door and two windows of different sizes. Inside there are four rooms and a corridor. In 1958 the town council considered taking over the house for a library called “Dos de Mayo”, but the purchase was not completed until 1979. It was then restored and turned into a house museum.
The visit covers five spaces furnished with 19th-century furniture, decorative objects and household utensils: Andrés Torrejón's study, with documentary panels about his life; the living room and dining room; the bedroom; the kitchen, which also served as a larder for the traditional pig slaughter and as a washing area, being the warmest room in the house; and the corridor, with period furniture and historical documents that can be consulted.
The house is part of the free guided itinerary “Móstoles Monumental”, organised by the town council, which also includes the nearby Museo de la Ciudad.
