About the museum

The Museo de la Ciudad de Móstoles opened in 2008 as a municipal museum devoted to explaining the history of the town in an educational way. It occupies the former Casa de Correos, also called the Postas building, a neo-Mudéjar mansion from the early 20th century that was completely remodelled, keeping its main façade, and to which a new three-storey building was added. The heart of the complex is a light well and the original wine cellar. In total it has some 567 m².

The permanent exhibition traces the history of Móstoles from the 19th century to the present day (first phase of the project). It is complemented by an ethnographic room devoted to farming and to the work of the wine cellar, a collection of photographs that depicts village life at the beginning of the 20th century, and a scale model at 1:20 of Móstoles in 1808, made by the Asociación Histórico Cultural 2 de Mayo, which shows the urban centre at the time of the uprising against the French. There are also audiovisual projections from the late 19th and early twentieth centuries.

The museum also has a temporary exhibition room on the basement floor, an assembly hall, an audiovisual room and classrooms for educational activities and workshops. It offers guided visits and chamber music cycles in collaboration with the Conservatorio Profesional Municipal Rodolfo Halffter. The Casa Museo Andrés Torrejón is very close by.
