About the museum
The Museo de Escultura de Leganés was born in 1984 as a project promoted by the Canarian artist Luis Arencibia, who lived in the town and worked for the town council, in collaboration with avant-garde sculptors. Over the years it grew thanks to contributions from leading 20th-century artists. In 2003 it moved to its present site and in 2005 it was officially opened. After Arencibia's death, the town council re-inaugurated it under his name in May 2024.
It is an open-air museum of about 27,000 m², with the look of a park, where the sculptures are integrated into the urban setting and the daily life of residents. It brings together more than 80 large-scale sculptures by artists such as Martín Chirino, Jorge Oteiza, Agustín Ibarrola, Juan Bordes, Pablo Serrano, José Hernández, Francisco Leiro, José Noja, Venancio Blanco, Ángel Ferrant and Apel·les Fenosa. Some of the works are also spread through the city's streets and squares.
The museum organises guided tours, talks, exhibitions, debates and masterclasses for adults and children. Guided tours are usually scheduled at different times of the year, and groups must book in advance.
