About the museum
Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo opened its doors in May 2008 in Móstoles. The building was erected on the site of a former traditional house, La Casona, and houses exhibition halls, an assembly hall, a media library, a specialised library, an open-air terrace and other workspaces, with a total area of about 5,900 square metres.
It is the contemporary art museum of the Community of Madrid and, according to its own definition, the only one in the region devoted exclusively to contemporary art. Its holdings consist of the Contemporary Art Collection of the Community of Madrid, now called the CA2M Museum Collection, with around 1,500 works, and the Fundación ARCO Collection, with around 300 works by more than two hundred artists.
Alongside its exhibitions, the museum runs a broad programme of activities, education, discussion and publications, and has become an important force in shaping the narratives of Spanish contemporary art. Its staff are employees of the Regional Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Community of Madrid.
