About the museum
The Casa-Museo de la Cerámica Popular Asturiana is in Piñera, about 3 km from Santa Eulalia, the capital of the municipality (concejo) of Cabranes. It occupies a renovated house that incorporates the Quintana de Arriba, within a block of typical houses of the area, and keeps the original layout of cattle sheds (cuadras) and barn lofts (tenadas). The dwelling and the museum share the building but are clearly separate.
The museum occupies the third floor and houses classified and documented pieces of black pottery from the potteries (alfares) of Piloña and of Rayu pottery from Vega de Poja, in Siero. The building belongs to Leopoldo Palacio Carús.
In addition to the collection, the house offers an archive of documents on local history and craftsmanship, a regional library and an exhibition of craft tools, implements and utensils of rural Asturian life.
