About the museum
The interpretation centre is in the Baxu district of Libardón, in the Asturian municipality of Colunga, and is run by Colunga town council. It pays tribute to Ramón García Tuero, known as the Gaitero de Libardón.
According to municipal information, he was born into a humble family and, thanks to his natural gift for music, came into contact with figures from royalty, politics and the arts and travelled through countries on several continents. The visit covers his life and figure and is complemented by a free audio guide service.
His name remains alive in the area: the Asturian bagpipe competition held there is called the “Premio Gaitero de Libardón”. Together with the Sierra del Sueve Interpretation Centre and the Museo del Jurásico de Asturias, the centre forms part of Colunga's museum offer, and the admission tickets to all three are linked by discounts.
