About the museum
The Casa-Museo Miguel Pellicer occupies the former house of the chaplain of the Pilar, a building erected around 1720 beside the Pilar Temple of Calanda. The temple was raised to commemorate the so-called Miracle of Calanda, the healing attributed in 1640 to the young man from Calanda, Miguel Juan Pellicer, and the museum takes its name from him.
The present layout was organised in the mid-1990s on the initiative of the parish, and the museum opened to the public on 29 March 1998. It is a religious museum that depends on the parish of Calanda.
The route is spread across several levels. In the courtyard and on the ground floor the origins of the temple are explained, along with how the miracle spread through the romance de ciegos (ballads sung by blind street singers). The first floor brings together documents and photographs of hermitages dedicated to the Virgin in Lower Aragon; the second floor keeps old mantles of the Virgin of the Pilar and other textile pieces; and the third floor reproduces the room of the miracle and a traditional kitchen.
