About the museum
The Casa-Museo Tomás Morales occupies the birthplace and family home of the poet Tomás Morales (Moya, 1884 – Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1921). It is a mid-19th-century building and an example of traditional Canarian architecture in the historic centre of Moya. In 1966 the Cabildo de Gran Canaria bought the property from the poet's heirs and opened it as a house museum in October 1976.
Tomás Morales is one of the leading poets of Hispanic modernism; his major literary project was “Las Rosas de Hércules”. The route shows the rooms where he spent his childhood and youth, and a collection of unique pieces and documents. The permanent exhibition rooms deal with his life and work and with the historical and literary context in which his output developed. The exhibition rooms were inaugurated in 1999, and the museum holds the poet's bibliographic and documentary archive.
The museum is a public body of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, integrated into its Museums Service, and also has a library, an archive and a centre for modernist studies.
