About the museum
The museum occupies Es Celler, a building from the late 19th century that was the winery of the Feliu family, owners of the island of Cabrera until its expropriation. The family began cultivating the island to produce its own wine, but the winery was left unfinished and, after the expropriation, it had other uses before becoming the museum of the Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre del Archipiélago de Cabrera.
The building stands in the interior of the island, towards the Ses Quatre Quarterades valley, and has three floors connected to one another. The permanent exhibition combines ethnological and historical aspects with the fauna, flora and marine environment of the park, and includes a reproduction of the Byzantine necropolis of Pla de ses Figueres, texts, illustrations and old photographs, traditional fishing gear and a display of the archaeological remains found on the island. In total, the centre has around twenty information panels.
Next to the building there is a small botanical garden on terraces with native plants of Cabrera, which represent 21% of the endemic species of the Balearic archipelago. The centre also offers guided tours and environmental education programmes.
