About the museum
The Casa Museu Duran i Sanpere is the birthplace of the historian Agustí Duran i Sanpere, on Carrer Major in Cervera. The family bought the property in 1886, when the couple had just married, and renovated it. Cervera town council bought the house in 1982 and, with the historian's bequest, it became a museum. Today it is run by the Patronat Municipal Duran i Sanpere and forms part of the Museu Comarcal de Cervera.
The first floor preserves a late 19th-century Catalan bourgeois home, with reception rooms, a private chapel, dining room, study and kitchen. Much of the furniture and household objects has been kept, including Duran i Sanpere's library and his collection of photographic and film cameras. The spaces show the family's role in the political and social life of the city. The second floor, which was the service area, now houses the museum's technical spaces.
On the ground floor, the former farm buildings house the permanent exhibition “La Cervera de 1700”, the Espai barroc, a room for temporary exhibitions and the I’am 93 space, dedicated to the Márquez brothers. The house is visited only with a guide, in small groups and with prior booking.
