About the museum
The Museu del Blat de Cervera was founded in the 1960s after an appeal by Ramon Vidal de Montpalau, manager of the Sindicat Agrícola de Cervera i sa Comarca, and the historian Agustí Duran i Sanpere to the region's rural families to contribute objects from rural life. Until 2012 it was housed in the former Hospital de Sant Joan de Jerusalem, on Carrer Major, and it forms part of the Museu de Cervera.
In March 2023 it reopened in the south wing of the Farinera del Sindicat Agrícola, a Modernist building designed by Cèsar Martinell and built in the early 1920s (20th century), which the town council bought in 2002 and which was declared a cultural asset of national interest in 2003. The new site has a renewed approach, conceived as a space for debate that poses questions about the past and future of agriculture.
The exhibition “Museu del Blat. Societats pageses i alternatives agràries” is organised into six areas: material culture, faces and landscapes, the wider Segarra, grain, flour and bread, the Sindicat Agrícola flour mill, and food sovereignty. According to the website of the Museu de Cervera, the Museu del Blat is currently temporarily closed.
