About the museum
The museum originated at the beginning of the 20th century with fossils found in the Talladell quarries, near Tàrrega, and with the archaeological surveys carried out by the Piarist father Bernat Noguera at the Castle of Mor. In 1957 an administrative board was set up, and in 1962 the museum opened with two rooms, one on the ground floor of the town hall and another at the entrance to the former palace of the Marquises de la Floresta. In 1969 it became part of the Centre Comarcal de Cultura, and in 1981 the agreement establishing the Museu Comarcal was signed between the Tàrrega Town Council and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The current seat is Cal Perelló, on Carrer Major, a small palace commissioned by Francesc de Perelló at the end of the 17th century over several houses acquired around 1681. At the end of the 18th century the family embellished it with paintings and ornaments. The town council bought and rehabilitated the building in the 1980s of the 20th century to house the museum, and the Noble Rooms, the first-floor garden, the chapel and the cellar were preserved.
The permanent exhibition brings together several themes: “Tragèdia al Call. Tàrrega 1348”, with the archaeological finds from the assault on the Jewish quarter and the necropolis of Les Roquetes; the room devoted to the Iberians of Urgell; “Forjant un sistema artístic”, a route through the history of art in Tàrrega between 1875 and 1965; and the Noble Rooms, which show how a well-to-do family lived from the 17th to the 19th century.
