About the museum
The house stands on the square named after Prat de la Riba, in the old town of Castellterçol. It probably dates from the 17th century and took on its present appearance in the 19th century, when it was known as the Casa Padrós; it is notable for the painted decoration of its façade.
Enric Prat de la Riba (1870-1917), a jurist and ideologue of conservative and Catholic Catalanism, was born and died here. He took part in drafting the Bases de Manresa (1892), co-founded La Veu de Catalunya (1899), was president of the Barcelona Provincial Council from 1907 and was the first president of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya.
His children donated the house to the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1982, which declared it a monument of national historic-artistic interest that same year. The museum opened on 1 August 1984 and is run by the Departament de Cultura through the Agència Catalana del Patrimoni Cultural. The visit covers his origins and family, his work as a thinker and communicator and his governmental work, and shows what a well-to-do rural house looked like in the early 20th century.
