About the museum

Under the name Thermalia, Museu de Caldes de Montbui, several buildings and collections are grouped together that summarise the history of the town: Roman baths, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic civic building and an 18th-century manor house, spread across three venues.

The main venue occupies the Antic Hospital de Santa Susanna, a Gothic building from the late 14th century that was joined to the Romanesque chapel of the same name, consecrated in 1403. It was a hospital for the poor with thermal baths, run by the town council; it is already mentioned in 1330 and was reformed in the 15th and 16th centuries. It retains semicircular barrel vaults from 1385, Gothic windows and 18th-century tiled baths. Today it houses a temporary exhibition room, an interpretation centre on spa culture and the Mas Manolo collection, with the main public display of the sculptor and painter Manolo Hugué, together with ceramics, lithography and drawings by his friend Pablo Picasso.

The second venue is Can Delger, a Romantic house museum that the Delger family handed over to the town council in 1959 and which keeps the furniture, works of art and an outstanding library of a rural bourgeois manor house. The third is the Termes Romanes, a Cultural Heritage Asset of national significance and one of the best-preserved bathing complexes of the classical era in Europe.
