About the museum
The museum occupies the Can Deu masia, north of Sabadell, documented since 1415. Over the centuries it was owned by several families, among them the Sallent-Deu, the Miquel and the Mornau, who used it as a permanent or summer residence and carried out farming activity there. It was traditionally an estate focused on vines, abandoned at the end of the 19th century because of the phylloxera crisis.
The industrial and urban growth of Sabadell in the 1950s put an end to its agricultural use. In 1964 the Caixa de Sabadell bought the estate to prevent its property development and to keep it as a leisure and environmental protection space. It is now run by the Espai Natura of the Fundació 1859 Caixa Sabadell, and the former Museu d’Eines del Camp is presented under the name Museu de la Vida al Camp.
The museum recreates the daily life of a masia through rooms such as the kitchen, the living room and the bedrooms, furnished with everyday objects. On the ground floor, tools are displayed grouped by the crops of wheat, vines and olives, with films, photographs and explanatory texts. In a third, separate space, forestry activities and transport implements are presented.
The guided visit lasts about 60 minutes. Since 2005 the masia has also had a farm with hens, geese, sheep, goats, pigs, a cow, a donkey and a draught horse, and the Can Deu forest, of around 86 hectares, functions as a peri-urban park.
