About the museum
The Casita del Infante, also called the Casita de Arriba, is a pleasure pavilion that Juan de Villanueva built between 1771 and 1773 in El Escorial. Sources link it to the Infante Gabriel de Borbón, son of Charles III, who used it as a place of rest and for his love of music: it was designed to host chamber music concerts.
The original decoration has not survived. The present interior dates from the reigns of Charles IV and Ferdinand VII, and the vault features a fresco of the four seasons painted by Vicente Gómez. Later the house was the residence of the future King Juan Carlos before his wedding, and his bedroom, his study and part of his furniture are still preserved.
Today it forms part of the property managed by Patrimonio Nacional in the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and can only be visited with a guide.
