About the museum
The Eduardo Barreiros Museum opened in 1998 on the Valmayor estate in Valdemorillo, and was the first museum in Spain devoted to a single figure in the motor world. It commemorates Eduardo Barreiros (1919–1992), who built one of the country’s largest private industrial companies in the 1950s and 1960s.
The building is an extension of existing sheds next to a small bullring and was designed by Jacobo Pérez-Enciso, with Manuel González Burdiel and Juan José Carral. The exhibition hall covers some 800 m² across two floors.
The permanent collection comes from donations, purchases and family objects, and is complemented by an important documentary archive. Highlights include a ZIS-5 truck, the Barreiros C-24 engine, a sectioned EB-6 diesel engine used for demonstrations, a Simca 1000, a Dodge Dart 270 and a model of the Barreiros Diésel factories. The museum is interactive: many of the exhibits can be touched, and since a 2003 agreement with the ONCE the route has been adapted for visitors with visual impairments.
