About the museum
The centre is housed in the former Santa Ana ceramics factory, in the Triana neighbourhood. In 1870 Antonio Gómez bought the kilns, and the business later passed through several owners; from 1939 it was run by the Rodríguez Díaz brothers as Cerámica Santa Ana. Seven kilns remained in use until the end of the 20th century.
The plan to turn the factory into a museum was proposed in 2009, and the proposal “Paisaje Alfar” was chosen through a municipal competition. It restored the kilns and kept the original layout of the workshops. The centre opened on 29 July 2014 and covers about 2,224 m². It was created by the Seville town council with the support of the Junta de Andalucía to preserve and promote the city's ceramic tradition.
Visitors find the kilns, with archaeological elements in their original location, tanks and mills from the manufacturing process, traditional ceramics, panels of urban tiles and audiovisual material. The building also serves as a space for exhibitions and cultural activities.
