About the museum
Principia was born in 1994 from the educational innovation project “Mes de la Ciencia” (Science Month), promoted by a broad group of secondary-school science teachers in Málaga. That initiative brought together more than one hundred scientific devices, made in various secondary schools, at the Parque Tecnológico.
The building that houses the centre was constructed in 1998 and has been operating steadily since May 1999. It was financed with public funds and came under the Málaga Delegation of Education and Science until December 2003.
Today it is sponsored by the Consorcio Centro de Ciencia Principia, made up of the Education Department of the Junta de Andalucía, the Málaga Provincial Council (Diputación Provincial de Málaga), the Fundación Bancaria Unicaja and the teachers’ association MECYT. The centre seeks to bring science and technology to all audiences in an entertaining way, with hands-on modules linked to teaching.
