About the museum
The Museo del Vino Málaga opened on 3 July 2008 in the Plaza de los Viñeros, in the Biedmas palace, an 18th-century building in the historic centre of the city. To house it, the interior of the palace was rebuilt to a design by the architect José Seguí, while its façades were kept. The museum is supported by the Diputación de Málaga (Provincial Council of Málaga).
Devoted to the history and culture of wine in the province, it occupies more than 800 m² across two floors with themed rooms. Its collection brings together more than 400 old pieces of chromolithographic quality, mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, related to the traditional trade in wine and Málaga raisins: bottle labels, posters and advertising prints, barrel heads, sketches, raisin boxes and lithographic stones.
The route explains the history of wine in the province, the geography of its vineyards and production zones, the making, types and ageing of the sweet and fortified wines of the D.O. Málaga, and the white, red and rosé wines of the D.O. Sierras de Málaga. Admission includes two commented tastings, and the museum also organises activities, tasting courses and guided tours for groups.
