About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación de la Vía Carisa, known as CIVICA, is in La Enfistiella, in the Río Negro valley (Nembra, municipality of Aller). It focuses mainly on the historical process that led to the construction of the Vía Carisa, the first and principal Roman communication route in Asturias, laid out in the 1st century BC during the Cantabrian Wars to connect Asturias with the rest of the Empire.
The exhibition explains the difficulties posed by the mountain terrain and the resistance of the Astures, and covers the sites associated with the road, such as Curriechos, Chagüezos, the Homón de Faro, La Cava, the Majada Busián and the Cuaña de Carraceo. One of its strengths is the replicas of materials found in ancient Roman camps. The route combines photographs, explanatory panels, videos and interactive resources, and includes a children’s area where children can be archaeologists for a day.
