About the museum

The Aula Didáctica del Prerrománico Asturiano occupies the former station of La Cobertoria, in the municipality of Lena. It was conceived as a cultural facility with a primarily educational and outreach purpose, to present the essence of the pre-Romanesque monuments.

The panels are arranged in four sections, adapted to the building’s layout: an introduction to the classroom, the Kingdom of Asturias, Asturian architecture and Santa Cristina de Lena. Several multimedia applications expand the information and offer infographic reconstructions of Santa Cristina de Lena, Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo.

The classroom also has a small hall for seminars, meetings or short courses, and acts as a tourist information point for the municipality of Lena and the Principality of Asturias, and in particular for pre-Romanesque architecture in Asturias.
