About the museum
The Centro de Visitantes del Árbol Fósil in Hacinas is housed in the restored former priest's house, and in front of it stands the village's fossil tree no. 1. It opened to the public in early 2009 to make known the fossil trunks found in the municipal area of Hacinas, in the province of Burgos.
Visitors find a reconstruction of the primitive environment of around 120 million years ago, plant fossils from different geological periods and information on the fossil forests of Spain and the world's most famous petrified forests. An audiovisual explains the discovery, study and importance of fossil trees, and a panel describes how they were moved to the village.
The route includes a recreation of the mould cave (cueva molde), an experiments area, an audiovisual room and a children's space with a mascot, Podocarpin, and the story of the fossil tree told in comic-strip form.
