About the museum
Territorio Artlanza is an open-air sculptural project created by Félix Yáñez, a sculptor and potter born in 1960 in Quintanilla del Agua, in the Arlanza valley (Burgos). After some thirty years selling ceramics at fairs, he began to decorate the surroundings of his workshop to cover some woodsheds and a carport.
As it attracted visitors, he expanded the complex with materials salvaged from the rubble dumps of nearby villages, such as posts, roof tiles, doors and adobe bricks, and with donations of old objects. Gradually new squares and museums were planned. The children's area was begun during the 2020 lockdown.
Today the complex reproduces at full scale a medieval Castilian village of more than 30,000 m², with façades with porticoes (soportal), squares, around fifteen thematic museums with antique tools and utensils, shop windows and two corrales de comedias (traditional open-air theatre yards). At the entrance, a workshop in Neo-Romanesque style displays terracotta sculptures by the artist. The project is private and has received no grants.
