About the museum
The Centro Español del Jabón, on Calle Monte de Piedad in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, is a museum and information centre on the history, culture and manufacture of soap. It opened only recently: in the 2025/2026 academic year it was added as a new feature of the city’s municipal educational offer.
The route displays original soaps dating back centuries, explains Sanlúcar’s importance in soap production and manufacture, and exhibits a collection of stamping dies and machinery. The guided visit covers, among other topics, the history of soap, its use during the world wars and its role in barbering and laundry. Besides the museum, the centre offers workshops for personalised soap and bath salts, as well as the Ruta del Jabón, which includes a visit to the salt pans and marshes of Sanlúcar.
