About the museum
La Casa del Cura is a manor house built in the 18th century by Juan Arcas, with the typical structure of a cortijo (farmstead): a main building, an annex, a cistern (aljibe) and a plot of more than 7,200 square metres with gardens and a vegetable plot. It stood beside the traditional drove road (vía pecuaria) of the Camino Viejo de Águilas, and at the end of the 19th century its owner was among those who benefited from the waters tapped in the Rambla de Nogalte.
The complex was restored by the Ayuntamiento of Puerto Lumbreras. In the annex, where farm tools were once stored, the Centro Etnográfico was set up: a permanent room on the farming and livestock traditions of the municipality, with audiovisuals and a collection of old tools and typical rural household items. Outside, the grounds include green areas and a small-scale re-creation of the traditional water supply systems of the region.
