About the museum

The museum belongs to the Brotherhood of the Santísimo Cristo del Perdón, known as Paso Morado, and opened in 2002 with the support of Lorca town council. It occupies a restored two-storey house of about 900 m² on the southern edge of the old town, near the church of El Carmen, the brotherhood's religious seat.

The ground floor houses the exhibition: an elongated hall with images, processional equipment and embroidery, and two side rooms, one of which is devoted to the group of the Last Supper. The upper floor contains the administrative offices and storage rooms, including some 400 penitents' crosses.

The most notable piece is the Last Supper (Table of the Apostles) by the sculptor Nicolás Salzillo, dated to around 1700 and acquired by the brotherhood in 1793; of its thirteen figures, nine are original and the rest are the work of José Jerique. Also on display are the Santísimo Cristo del Perdón by Roque López (1787), the Cristo del Socorro by Isabel Bizcar Cuyás, the banner of the Virgen de la Piedad embroidered in gold and silk on black velvet, the mantle of the Dolorosa and the robes of the nazarene procession group. The brotherhood dates back to the early 17th century and was the first in the Region of Murcia to resume its processions after the Civil War.
