About the museum

The Ecomuseo de Bicorp was set up as a project for the comprehensive management of the municipality’s heritage, in which the Museu Valencià d’Etnologia takes part. The first phase consisted of cataloguing the local heritage and drafting the project, and the first step was the Heritage Interpretation Centre, which opened in 2009 and coordinates the routes, workshops, exhibitions and guided visits.

The centre works along four lines: welcoming and assisting visitors, boosting the socio-economic development of the town, serving as a leading cultural centre for the comarca of La Canal de Navarrés, and promoting the management, protection and dissemination of cultural heritage.

The most outstanding feature of this heritage is the Levantine rock art, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In the municipality of Bicorp are the Cueva de la Araña, with its famous scene of honey gathering, and the Barranco Moreno site. The Araña paintings became known in 1920, and in 2020 the centenary of their discovery was celebrated.
