About the museum
The Ecomuseo de Somiedo studies cultural landscapes, that is, the mark that human communities have left on the territory, and brings together natural and cultural heritage. Its focus is the rural house, which reflects the way of life of the farming society of this mountain municipality.
In Veigas, “La Casa” shows three dwellings with broom-thatched roofs (teito de escoba) as they were when they were still lived in, until the mid-1980s. In Caunéu, the former school building, constructed in the mid-20th century, houses an exhibition of traditional Somiedo crafts such as the blacksmith and the carpenter and, on the second floor, livestock transhumance.
In La Pola there are also four glass display cases shaped like teito huts, with objects and texts on farming, transport, hunting and fishing. A single ticket gives access to both visitor centres.
