About the museum
The Aula del Oro is an interpretation centre that shows the close relationship between gold and the history of Belmonte de Miranda. It is housed in the former prison building, constructed with stones from the vanished monastery of Santa María de Lapedo.
The exhibition traces the historical and landscape development of the municipality, with gold mining as its common thread, from the Bronze Age to the present day. It combines panels, interactive resources, archaeological reproductions and original elements from the excavations at the El Valle-Boinás site, such as the timber shoring of old galleries.
The route includes reproductions of goldwork from the castro culture (Iron Age), minerals from the active El Valle-Boinás gold mine, a semi-immersive audiovisual and a play room for families with a sandpit and a large puzzle about mining activity.
