About the museum

The Parque de la Prehistoria de Teverga, in San Salvador d'Alesga, opened in 2007 as a centre devoted to publicising Palaeolithic rock art and the way of life of the earliest humans.

La Galería is the park's interpretation centre: an exhibition explaining the meaning of Palaeolithic art, its techniques and its motifs, with texts, drawings, maps, photographs, audiovisuals, models and reproductions. Its scientific content was prepared by an international committee. In the Cueva de Cuevas, an underground dimly lit space, full-size reproductions of groups of images from the caves of Tito Bustillo and Candamo, in Asturias, and Niaux, in France, are displayed.

The exterior includes an animal enclosure with Przewalski's horses and European bison, which have been part of a conservation project since 2014, as well as reconstructed aurochs, red deer, fallow deer and tarpans. There is also a prehistoric village with three Palaeolithic huts, a thematic route on the bear, and workshops in experimental archaeology.
