About the museum
The Cubo de la Música is a building from 1982 by the architect Enrique Salvo Medina, located in the south of Algeciras, close to the transport links that connect Europe and Africa. It takes its name from the shape of its structure and is the headquarters of the cultural association “Amigos de la Música” and of its Symphony Orchestra, founded in 2007. It is also the provincial seat of the Federación de Jóvenes Orquestas Estables de Andalucía.
The orchestra and the association’s groups rehearse and train in the Cubo, and courses, lectures, concerts and workshops are organised there. It also houses an archive dedicated to conserving, managing and studying the musical heritage of Cádiz and Andalusia, with a recovery department.
The building’s museum permanently presents three interactive exhibitions: one on the activities that take place in the Cubo, another on old instruments and the families of a symphony orchestra, and a third devoted to musicians from the province of Cádiz, among them Paco de Lucía and Manuel de Falla, with a tribute to the anonymous musicians of Algeciras. Schools across the province visit the exhibition.
