About the museum

The Cultural and Tourist Space of Holy Week opened in 2025 as a new resource to publicise the Holy Week of Alcalá de Henares, which has been declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional (Fiesta of National Tourist Interest). It forms part of the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística (Tourist Sustainability Plan) and is financed with European Next Generation funds. It occupies a municipal building on Calle Cardenal Sandoval y Rojas, opposite the entrance to the Huerta del Obispo, and replaces the former interpretation centre in the same building.

The building has three floors. On the first floor is the headquarters of the Junta de Cofradías Penitenciales, with a multimedia room, a meeting room and an exhibition on the robes and the history of the brotherhoods. The ground floor traces the history of Holy Week in Alcalá up to its declaration as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. In the basement, the displays cover the gastronomy, the music, the poster and shop-window competitions, the main brotherhoods and the ten processions held each year.

The space has 25 exhibition elements with information in six languages, and it also hosts temporary exhibitions, such as a photographic show by local photographers.
