About the museum

The church of San Pedro in Cisneros, built in stone and brick in the 16th century and reformed in the 19th century, forms part of the Museo Territorial Campos del Renacimiento, a project that brings together the parish museums of Becerril de Campos, Paredes de Nava, Cisneros and Fuentes de Nava at five sites. The 19th-century reform removed its coffered wooden ceilings (artesonados); only those of the church of San Primitivo and San Facundo, the museum's other site in the town, survive.

Inside, the Renaissance high altarpiece by Francisco Giralte stands out. Under the title “Nuestra Iglesia”, the museum presents a discourse in three parts: the first traces the history of the town from its first settlers and its periods of greatest prosperity; the second, the largest, brings together a large group of works of art, mainly sculptures, which show the importance of the Church for the people of these lands; the third offers a display of goldsmiths' work. The visit is complemented by an audiovisual projection beneath the high altarpiece, which recalls the figure of Cardinal Cisneros, whose ancestors came from this town.
