About the museum
Casa Koleto is a traditional Pyrenean house in Ochagavía (Otsagabia), in the Salazar valley, with a finely worked stone façade and a hipped roof. Its date of construction is not certain: 1718 and 1786 are both cited. Most of the village’s houses were built after the fire of 1794, when French troops burnt the town during the War of the Convention.
The town council bought the house to prevent the loss of one of the few examples of this type that remain in the Pyrenees, and converted it into a cultural and ethnographic space, open to the public since summer 2023. The house retains its traditional kitchen with a large fireplace, furniture and wallpaper from the 1920s, and a stable and a cellar devoted to ethnography and to objects of farming and livestock life.
The route also includes a room dedicated to the Ochagavía dancers (danzantes), a traditional costume of the Salazar valley, religious objects and several exhibition rooms. Concerts are held in the courtyard in summer.
