About the museum
El Gran Museu de la Màgia, known as La Casa Màgica, brings together the collection that the illusionist Xevi (Xavier Sala i Costa) has built up over his artistic career around the world. It is housed in a typical Catalan farmhouse in Santa Cristina d'Aro, in the Baix Empordà.
The collection includes automata, posters, magic apparatus from different periods, paintings, playing-card decks, tarot cards, books, curious objects and photographs. The museum is known for its collection of automata from the 19th and 20th centuries, which it presents as the most important in the Iberian Peninsula. In 2014 the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM) recognised Xevi for creating the museum and for the originality of its layout.
The visit is always guided, with Xevi himself as the guide, and runs through themed rooms such as those of the Faquir Sager, the Automata room, the room dedicated to Salvador Dalí, the Sala Merlí, the Sala del Violí and the Magic Kitchen.
