About the museum

LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial opened in March 2007 in one of the buildings of the former Universidad Laboral de Gijón, today Laboral Ciudad de la Cultura, a complex designed by the architect Luis Moya and refurbished from 2005, after it passed to the Principality of Asturias in 2001.

It describes itself as an exhibition and production space, a pioneer in Spain at the intersection of art, science and technology. It offers a programme of exhibitions, workshops and activities for all audiences, and provides artists, collectives and creative industries with residency, training and creation laboratory programmes.

Its resources include the FabLAB, a sound laboratory, studios, a media library and the Archive of Asturian Artists. The centre also takes part in several European residency and creation projects, and runs an intensive educational programme, with robotics workshops for young people aged 6 to 17 and a time-travel tour of the history of the Laboral.
