Museo Adolfo Suárez y la Transición

Museum in Cebreros on the Spanish Transition and the figure of Adolfo Suárez, housed in the former church of Santiago.

Opening hoursAdmission €3 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The museum occupies the Old Church of Santiago in Cebreros. The church was built in the second half of the 14th century and rebuilt in the 15th century; it ceased to be a parish church at the beginning of the 17th century, when a new church was built, although worship continued until the 19th century. It then had very different uses. Today the ruined portal, the tower, the interior arcades, the altar and the side chapels are preserved, integrated into the restoration.

Cebreros Town Council promoted the project and restored the building to dedicate it to the Transition. The museum pays tribute to that period from a national perspective, wants different generations to remember it and understand its values, and commemorates President Adolfo Suárez in both his political and his personal dimension.

The permanent exhibition is conceived as a time tunnel, with thematic blocks that follow one another continuously and interact with the historic architecture. It brings together original seats from the parliament, audiovisual documents, electoral material, speeches, photographs, decorations, sound recordings and works of art. An audio guide in Spanish with 32 tracks accompanies the route, which covers social change, the Crown, the politics of the Transition, terrorism and the coup d'état.
