About the museum
The Aguinaga Mercedes-Benz Museum opened in 2018 in a space next to the Aguinaga dealership, which has sold Mercedes-Benz cars in Bilbao for decades. It was promoted by Juan Aguinaga, third generation of the family business, and occupies a building of more than 2,000 square metres in Barakaldo.
The collection brings together around thirty classic vehicles that trace the history of the brand from the late 1920s to the 1980s, along with a replica of the three-wheeler patented by Karl Benz. Among the pieces are a Mercedes-Benz 220 S (W111) Fintail with a carburettor engine, an oil painting of Juan Manuel Fangio with his “Flecha de Plata”, record-breaking cars such as the W125 and the T80, the 190 SL, the 280 SL “Pagoda” and the 600, as well as historic lorries and vans.
In addition to the cars, the museum includes educational panels on the 140 years of the brand’s history. Its managers plan to add new models gradually, to keep in contact with the Stuttgart museum for new vehicles, and to organise temporary exhibitions with pieces from private collectors.
