About the museum
The CIHMA (Centro de Interpretación Histórica y Medioambiental) bears the name of Luis Choya Almaraz and is run by Barakaldo City Council as part of the educational and cultural project Ezagutu Barakaldo. It is aimed at the general public interested in the history, heritage and environment of the municipality.
It is located in El Regato, a rural and natural area that is well preserved, in the former schools of the neighbourhood. The exhibition is spread over two floors and uses models, videos and computer panels to explain what life, customs and the landscape of El Regato and its surroundings were like. The visit is self-guided and free; for guided tours and group services, enquire directly with the centre.
The centre is a good starting or finishing point for the route linking Retuerto, the Gorostiza reservoir and El Regato.
