About the museum

The museum opened in 1997 in the highest part of the Vila Vella of Llíria, on top of the remains of an Islamic alcazaba and a medieval Christian castle. The architects Gemma Casany and Ignacio Docavo designed the building to integrate it into the former fortification and to respect the church of La Sangre, a national monument.

The MALL conserves, protects and displays the archaeological finds from the Camp de Túria and promotes research into sites such as the sanctuary and thermal baths of Mura, the Roman mausoleums and the Arab baths.

The collection is spread over two floors. The Iberian section brings together ceramics from the Tossal de Sant Miquel, the ancient Edeta, and from La Monravana, including vessels with inscriptions and figurative decoration. The upper floor is devoted to the Roman world, with a treasure of about 6,000 silver denarii, a scale reproduction of a thermopolium and a model of the Mura complex. The medieval room displays ceramics from the 14th and 15th centuries, a liturgical glass set and Gothic panels from the church of La Sangre.
