About the museum
The Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Moncada has a recent history. It opened in spring 1999 as a Museographic Collection, under the Valencian Cultural Heritage Law passed in 1998, and in February 2011 it was officially recognised as a museum.
It is located at Calle Mayor, 35, in the building that housed the town hall from the early 20th century until 1997, when the council moved to the former palace of the counts of Rótova. The museum occupies several rooms on the first floor, and the ground floor houses the municipal library.
It has two permanent exhibition rooms. The first is devoted to Iberian culture and above all to the settlement of Tòs Pelat, with abundant Greek imports. The second covers the Roman, Andalusi and late medieval Christian worlds. The museum also promotes the excavations at Tòs Pelat, carried out since 2002 together with the Universitat de València, and has a laboratory.
